You can listen to podcasts while on the go or multi-tasking, so they’re the perfect addition to any time-poor small business owner’s toolkit. And these days, there’s a podcast for pretty much everything (case in point: There’s even one called A Twilight World of Ultimate Smoothness), so there’s no shortage of insightful and entertaining options out there for aspiring and current small business owners. Here are our top nine picks.
1. Beers, blokes and business
Like all good things in life, Beers, blokes and business was born from a casual catch-up between mates. HerBusiness, formerly known as the Australian Businesswomen’s Network, is a community of over 30,000 businesswomen from around the world. The HerBusiness podcast is designed to equip women with the skills and advice needed to start and grow their businesses, with host Suzi Dafnis and guest speakers offering practical advice on all aspects of business management.
Co-hosted by Gimlet CEO Alex Blumberg and former FiveThirtyEight website editor Lisa Chow, StartUp covers starting a business from a first-hand perspective – including naming it, valuing it, creating business plans and day-to-day operations.
4. TEDTalks Business
If you aspire to be the absolute best in your field, TEDTalks Business is a good place to start for a dose of inspiration. 5. Marketing Smarts
Marketing Smarts is hosted by professional speaker and social media expert Kerry O’Shea Gorgone, and as the name suggests, covers all sorts of marketing advice for businesses. Each episode features a one-on-one conversation with an expert guest, which means lots of in-depth insights from some of the best in the biz.
6. 350 Third
It’s no secret that the internet is transforming the way we do business and rapid advancements in technology are driving innovation. 350 Third discusses the inevitable impact of the internet on business and the challenges inherent to a constantly evolving digital landscape.
7. The Fizzle Show
Self-described as “a podcast for creative entrepreneurs and honest business builders who want to earn a living doing something they care about”, The Fizzle Show is refreshingly no-nonsense and jargon-free. Although hosts Corbett Barr, Chase Reeves and Steph Crowder take a light-hearted approach, there’s no doubt that they know their stuff, and offer insights on everything from marketing and selling online to audience growth and work-life balance.
8. Social Pros
Marketing a business on social media is murky and uncertain territory for many, and that’s where Social Pros hosts Jay Baer of Convince & Convert and Adam Brown of Salesforce come in to help. Each episode sees them interview a prominent social media expert to discuss social media for businesses, and the latest trends in social media marketing.
9. So Money
While technically not a business podcast, So Money – hosted by financial correspondent Farnoosh Torabi – is a great listen for anyone looking for sage business finance advice. The podcast features interviews with some of the world’s top business minds sharing their financial journeys and insights.
