While this is out of your control to some extent, one way of encouraging backlinking from other websites is by offering to guest blog.
In addition, make the most of your own web pages by steering your content in the direction of other posts or pages by linking to them – but only do this when relevant.
Share posts on social media channels
Social media shouldn’t just be used to advertise your business. Promote other posts and websites you’re interested in and are relevant to you. People will feel flattered and link back to you.
