New data released by White Pages shows Smith as the number one surname in Australia by a landslide. While the surnames reported next in line nationally are significantly behind the number one placeholder, Jones followed Williams have come in neck and neck for second and third place consecutively.

However, our multicultural nation shows itself once we break down the data by state, with names such as Lee, Wang and Nguyen appearing in the top 5 lists.

The data has come at the end of a history-making year for White Pages, Australia’s first ever directory, which unveiled a new cloud based platform, unique proactive customer updates and a refresh of the whole brand. The collective output resulting in the biggest transformation in the brand’s 136-year history.

Hayley Jovanovic, Head of Marketing for White Pages admits, “We’re the only online directory able to provide this Australian data, which comes from the fact that we process and review over 33,500 listings every day. This allows us to continue to connect Australians, which has been our purpose since 1880”.
