Eight Tasmanian businesses ready to take the next step will have the opportunity to thrive following the launch of the Sensis Stepping Up Grant Program in association with the Tasmanian Government in Hobart today.
Launched by Adam Brooks MP, Tasmanian Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business and Trade and John Allan, Chief Executive Officer of Sensis, the $10,000 Sensis Stepping Up Grant Program will provide funding for eight small businesses deemed to be the best and most innovative in the State.
Sensis Chief Executive Officer, John Allan said: “There are around 36,000 small businesses in Tasmania, employing 105,000 employees. These businesses are the lifeblood of the Tasmanian economy, working hard to make a valuable contribution to the economy, their community and their livelihood.”
“Small businesses are faced with many challenges and a $10,000 investment can really change their world, allowing them to buy a badly needed piece of hardware, replace aging equipment or to provide essential training for front line staff. The Grants are about giving something back and helping these businesses to evolve and grow,” he said.
Small to medium businesses in Tasmania, with 200 employees or less, can apply for the Grants under four categories - customer service, innovation and technology, start up and emerging business and business growth.
“We are proud to have the Tasmanian Government on board as a partner in providing matched funding for this initiative. Mr Brooks is a great supporter of small business; as evident in his support for the Sensis Stepping Up Grant Program,” said Mr Allan.
“As the leading marketing partner for small businesses, we have been lucky to share the growth journey of so many Tasmanian success stories. Many of those businesses are now emerging as some of the best in Australia and taking their products across the globe.”
The latest Sensis Business Index, to be released next week, will show that business confidence is on the rise in Tasmania, up seven points in the last quarter on a net basis to make the State one of the most positive in the nation.
“This program recognises all those small businesses who have taken a risk to follow a vision or dream. These business owners work long hours and are often under enormous pressure. The Sensis Stepping Up Grant Program is designed to provide an injection of funds that will help propel their growth,” said Mr Allan.
“Tasmania has been chosen as the birthplace for this program, so it really is a unique opportunity for businesses in the State. Applications are now open and the process to apply is easy to do using the online portal.”
Applications close on Sunday 4 October. The recipients will be announced in Hobart on Friday 13 November.
