Sensis is pleased to announce the appointment of David Scribner as CEO of True Local with additional responsibility for the Skip app¹ business, reporting to Sensis CEO, John Allan.

Mr Scribner, currently CEO of Virgin Mobile, is a business veteran with some 20 years’ experience working for leading brands such as Milo, AGL and Telstra. With a focus on brand, employee engagement and digital innovation, he has delivered strong business results throughout his career.

True Local is the go-to online directory and review website used by millions of Australian businesses to increase their online presence – from restaurants to hair salons, tradies to accountants.

CEO Sensis, John Allan said that now in its tenth year, the time was ripe to accelerate True Local’s growth and further realise its potential.

“True Local has achieved terrific growth since Sensis acquired the business in March 2013 and the time is right to invest in the next stage of its development. In combining David’s expertise in digital innovation with the experience of the existing True Local team, we are excited about the future,” he said.

“Additionally, Skip has become one of Australia’s most popular order, pay and collect applications servicing over 800 cafes and continues to grow at a phenomenal rate. We expect this will be a stellar year for Skip as it explores complementary markets.

“Both are pure digital businesses that appeal to a primarily urban audience; it makes good sense to bring them under David’s leadership.”

Mr Scribner said he was looking forward to joining the True Local and Skip teams and leading the businesses through the next phases of their growth – utilising his expertise in mobile.

“There’s no doubt the smartphone will continue to grow as the device of choice in how consumers search for and engage with businesses – there is great potential in how True Local and Skip harness this knowledge to help businesses gain more exposure, connect and transact with their community and generate advocacy for their business,” he said.

Mr Scribner will commence his role on 20 March 2017 based in True Local’s Sydney headquarters.

¹ Skip is a smartphone app that helps customers ‘skip the queue’ by ordering and pre-paying for coffee and food from cafes and restaurants across Australia. There are more than 800 venues, 78,000 registered users and over a million orders processed.
